I
was born and raised in Winter Park, Florida and share a warehouse studios
with my husband John, who is also an artist. My work continues to evolve
and move between two and three dimensional pieces. Recently I have been
working on a group of mixed media assemblages and collage paintings.
The joy of taking found objects, and found images and creating something
new and fresh is very appealing to me. I allow myself to play and let
my pieces reveal themselves to me. I like to leave all possibilities
open, to start unattached to the out come, everything totally permitted,
enabling me to fully enjoy the process. I
have been fascinated by old books, history and odd bits of memorabilia.
I find the things that interest me most are slightly absurd. I am especially
fond of old photographs. There are things that find their way into my
work. In the early stages of a piece I will begin with a collage, building
a story and surface. Simple pencil drawing is an important part of my
work as well as the written word, fragments from my own thoughts, pages
from old journals, and forgotten letters. I tend to work in series,
and will often have several pieces going at once. Some of my paintings
are very large, but most are small and intimate. I prefer to arrange
the smaller pieces in groups of three's or five's, and will incorporate
them into small installations in combination with things found in nature,
items dipped in wax or wrapped in string. My
hope is to create something real and somehow poetic yet not commonplace.
My goal is to continue communicating in my own language.
