Artist Statement I paint in oils, using a bright and strong colored palette. I make thick use of my paint on canvas and a variety of others medias; painting direct and using bold imagery of animals and personal symbolism. I strive to feed the senses and emotions. About Gena Born in Massachusetts and now residing in Orlando, Gena paints under her father's original Russian name Semenov, which he anglicized after he defected from the former Soviet Union in 1945. Gena is a 1983 graduate of Ringling School of Art & Design, Sarasota, Florida, and is well known, both for her painting and graphic design talents. Working in oils, her canvases are filled with bright colors and a style reminiscent of Matisse and the Fauve movement. Having participated in art festivals and events from Cape Cod to Miami, Gena has received many awards including Best of Show. She paints and exhibits at Café Tu Tu Tango in Orlando. |
